If you've got a little one around the house, you'll be aware of how much waste is generated. Not only through nappies, but food packaging and baby wipes to only name a few. How can you make things more eco friendly for your child, especially in their bedroom? By making just a few simple swaps, you'll be protecting your baby and reducing their impact on the environment.

Cot/Bed - One of best eco conscious options is to buy a second hand cot, but do make sure that it up to safety standards. When you buy a new one, look at cots made from bamboo or reclaimed wood, and if they're painted, make sure it is paint from toxic free chemicals. When you're finished with the cot and your little one has grown out of it, pass it on to others. Also look at options such as cots that turn into beds for toddlers and then more grown up beds, too.

Wall Paint - When getting a room ready for a new arrival, ensure you choose eco-friendly paints. Normal ones can contain chemicals such as formaldehyde and other nasties which aren't good for your babies to breath in. When you do paint the room, ensure that you air the room out after painting to ensure the air is very fresh.

Bedding - Bamboo fibre is extremely absorbent and has thermo-regulating properties which make it perfect for baby’s use all year round—; baby stays cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Our Bamboo Knitted Baby Blanket from Bambusa is silky soft and especially made for baby’s sensitive skin. Our bamboo baby sheets in Green Wiggle Check are designed to fit most bassinets and cots. They are made of The Little Linen Company’s signature soft bamboo and cotton fabric blend. Our super soft bamboo baby blankets are made of 70% cotton and 30% bamboo rayon. Sleepwear - Bamboo has highly breathable fibres that keep body temperature constant and comfortable, making it a perfect material for your little one to sleep in. Nappies - Nappies are a very big contributor to waste that goes in landfills, and they can take years to waste away. Consider changing to cloth nappies. They can save you money in the long run and reduce waste; very cost efficient and eco friendly.
