6 Ways to be Eco-friendly during your Beauty Routine

If you’re eco conscious, have you considered how you can alter your beauty routine to be more eco-friendly? From using a bamboo wash cloth, to using every last drop of a product, check out these great tips below.

Wash Wisely - When you remove your makeup, single use wipes might be handy, but they can clog landfills. Consider removing your makeup with a washcloth that is made from organic fibres like bamboo. Our Baksana face cloths and towels use organic dyes which makes them both eco-friendly and very kind to your skin.

Hair, Hair, Hair - If your hair doesn't get massively greasy, go an extra day without washing it than normal. It not only adds texture which makes it easier to style, but it is also good for the environment because you save water, as well as the electricity for blow drying your hair. If you're concerned about your hair looking oily, use some dry shampoo near the scalp and it should look as good as new. If you do blow dry your hair often, try to do it for less time. It takes two trees 10 years to absorb the carbon dioxide that you create from blow drying your hair for ten minutes over a year. Use a towel to soak up excess water beforehand.

Homemade Treatments - If you have a few bothersome blackheads on your skin, don't buy over the counter products in plastic bottles. Instead, make up your own remedy instead. Use half a lemon and put 3 drops of honey on it. Rub the lemon on your face on the blackhead prone areas. Leave for 5 minutes and then wash off with cold water. Look out for other natural remedies too; often they're better than shop bought ones.

Use every last drop - When you think your product has run out, chances are that it hasn't; there is usually some left at the bottom. Squeeze as much out as you can, and a wringer - such as one used to get paint out of tubes - is perfect for getting the last bits out. If your mascara dries up, run hot water on the outside of the tube, and the inside will re-liquify. Always ensure that you recycle all packaging.

Go for the bar - If you're a fan of liquid soaps but would like to be more eco-friendly, ditch them and go for the soap bars instead, especially ones with packaging that can be recycled. Look for ones that are made from natural ingredients; there are so many great flavours available that not only will be good for your beauty routine, but will make your bathroom smell lovely!

Teeth Cleaning - It is estimated that over 30 million toothbrushes are used and disposed of by Australians which amounts to approximately 1000 tonnes of landfill each year. Our Environmental Toothbrush can be disposed of safely by returning it to earth in compost or landfill. Both the bamboo and bristles will biodegrade into soil in 6 months to 2 years.
