6 Ways to ‘Green’ Your Beauty Routine

When it comes to your daily beauty routine, it is very easy to stay 'green', without compromising results. By following a few simple tricks, you'll be able to stick to a healthy beauty routine for your body while still doing your bit for the planet.

Avoid Anything 'Synthetic' - Try to use products that use no synthetic fragrances. You can see this by simply checking the label. Even ones that are called 'fragrance free' may still contain masking fragrances, so be careful. Ones that do contain synthetic fragrances contain lots of nasty chemicals which can cause things like asthma and allergies, and aren't good for the environment.

Check The Labels - When studying the labels for synthetics, also look for as fewer chemicals as possible; the shorter the list, the better it is for you. Things such as sodium lauryl and PEGS are unnecessary toxins that your body does not need. Even products for 'sensitive skin' contain toxins, so ensure you read all of the packaging.

Do I REALLY need this? - When buying something new, ask yourself whether you really need it (also applicable for things for the home). It is very easy to be drawn into marketing campaigns that make you think you need a different lotion/cream for various different reasons, but many of them do the same thing. Look to see if there is a homemade version of what you use too, which is better for you and the planet.

Trusted Companies - It is all well and good reading labels, but to be truly green, study the company you're buying for; what are THEY doing to help the planet? Some companies offer a 'greener' product, but the rest of their products still contain bad chemicals. If they are truly green, they need to remove toxins from all of their products. Look for companies that support green full stop.

Less Is More - It is really easy to go through your favourite cream in the space of a few weeks. That's because you love it though, right? While it may be one you simply can't do without, it could be the case that you're using too much of it. Sometimes putting on a lot isn't really the answer; for things like moisturiser, sometimes only a tiny amount is needed.

Next time you head to buy your next batch of beauty products, follow the above steps to ensure you're green as you preen!
