4 Tips To Spring Clean Your Wardrobe

Posted by Bamboo Village on 12th Sep 2016

Spring is here and we're loving every minute. Not only is spring all fresh and new (and thankfully, warmer - hello spring sunshine), it's a really great time to refresh the wardrobe. Over winter it can end up a little flustered and full, and trying to find anything to wear can be quite an adventure. When you're drooling over the newest spring lines, you may have the realisation that you need to make some room. And spring is the perfect time to do it. Are you ready for a new-season clean? Check out our tips and get ready for a declutter.

1 – Make it fun. Wardrobe sorting can seem tedious; can't you just keep it all?! You could, in reality, but the bulging seams of your poor cupboard will end up bursting and the lack of room means that it's harder to add (and find) the new things. Don't you really want to treat yourself to that new bamboo dress? Get out your music player, and put on some tunes. This will make the process that little bit less boring; if you sort while you're dancing around to Beyoncé, it'll be so much fun.

2 - Grab Some Boxes. Sorting out enables you to be so kind to the environment and charity, and also has the potential to make you a little extra money. Grab three large boxes or bags, and arrange them somewhere sensible. One will be for selling (eBay, garage sales etc.), one will be for donating, and the other will be recycle. If something is in great condition and you think you could make some good money, add it to the 'Sell' pile. If something is still wearable but you don't think it'd be worth the time to sell yourself (i.e. a jumper you used to wear around the house), add to the 'Donate' pile. If clothes really aren't in the condition to be worn anymore, they'll head to the 'Recycle' pile.

3 – Be realistic and ruthless. When the boxes are prepped, it's time to start rummaging through the crowds of shirts, tees and jumpers. Now is when you have to be very realistic about what is being kept and what is getting the heave-ho. Keep in mind the six-month rule; if it hasn't been worn in 6 months and it isn't massively seasonal, get rid of it. It might be a sale item you never wore, something that's very out of fashion, or an item that simply doesn't fit anymore. Get them to head to the pile.

4 – Bring in reinforcements. Struggling with choices, and or just can’t seem to get rid of anything?! Bring in a friend or family member. Turn it into a bit of a fashion show, if need be (Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha style), and have others choose whether you ‘Keep’ or ‘Toss’ particular items. Sometimes having a second opinion can really help, and your comrades might end up grabbing a few freebies if it’s reached its final days with you.
