Organic food is food that has been produced to standards to keep the production more natural. However, a lot of people make the mistake of thinking that if they buy organic it will cost them a lot more money, but if you know what to buy and where to buy it, you can definitely save money when buying organically. Follow these tips below.

Avoid bagged vegetables and salads - When you buy them pre-packaged and ready to eat, you're paying for the convenience. For the same price or even less, you can buy fresh vegetables or salad and you will actually get more for your money. Make it fun if you have children, and let them wash the greens and help get the food prepared.

Forget the peel - For any fruits that have a peel, it isn't worth buying organically; don't break the budget when buying bananas, oranges or avocados. Things like strawberries, apples and pears are fruits that are worth buying organically.

Head to the market - Local Farmers Markets are the best place to get your organic food, while supporting your local farmers at the same time. Prices will be lower than at the supermarket too, and you can ask advice from the people who have grown the foods.

Spend on fruits and meats - If you want to save a few dollars, avoid spending extra money on organic white bread or rice, and just get the regular whole grain breads and brown rice. If you only want to buy some of your food organically, fruits and meats are definitely the best choice.

Cook fresh – Starting to buy organic is a great way to encourage yourself to start cooking from fresh. Plan all of your meals in advance and plan to use all fresh ingredients and herbs. Doing this instead of buying convenience and quick-cook food from the supermarket, can save you money each week.

Chicken - When it comes to organic meat, chicken is cheaper than red meat. Buying a whole chicken can also save you money too, which is ideal if you have a large family.

Look for the coupons - Keep an eye out for coupons and money off organic produce in magazines and local flyers. They're becoming more popular, and are great for saving big on your shopping bill.

Supermarket Organics - In some local stores, owners partner with local farmers who grow organically. Look out for the local produce, as opposed to larger brand organic products, which will be more expensive. You'll be supporting local and saving money.

Eat seasonally - Know what food is best in its season, and keep an eye out for these. Organic food will always be at its best value when it is in season. Stock up on what's in season, and plan your meals accordingly.

These tips prove that buying organic doesn't have to be costly, so why not give it a go? If you have any other tips too, please share them in the comment box below.
