Caring for Bamboo Towels

Posted by Bamboo Village on 10th Sep 2014

Have you tried bamboo towels? They are a delicious treat after a bath or shower, and not like any towel you will have used before; not only do they look fantastic, they feel amazing against your skin. You will struggle to go back to other towels after using them! When it comes to looking after your bamboo towels though, proper care is needed to ensure that they stay soft and fluffy, and the high quality of them is preserved for each use. If you care after them properly, they’ll last a lifetime. Check out these tips for caring for your bamboo towels.

Pre Washing

When your gorgeous new towels arrive, wash them in hot water before their first use. This tightens their weave structure and will reduce snagging throughout their lifetime. When you have used them for the first time and they need cleaning, use the gentlest cycle to clean them in your washing machine. Stronger cycles can tear the bamboo fabric, meaning the towels won’t last as long. Also use an environmentally friendly detergent that is quite mild, and avoid fabric softeners and bleach because they damage the bamboo fibres and reduce absorbency.

Drying

When it comes to drying your towels, preferably dry them on washing line if available. A neat trick is to line dry until 90% dry and then finish up in the tumble dryer (on a low setting) to really fluff up the fibres and increase absorbency. Ensure that your towels are kept away from any chemical agents that will fade your towel such as bleach, some toothpastes and teeth whiteners, and benzoyl peroxide.

Storage

Storage is very important when it comes to caring for your bamboo towels. If you usually store regular towels in a cupboard or drawer, look for any sources of heat being emitted nearby, such as a floor vent or water heater and store them as far away as possible because prolonged heat can damage the towels. Do not store bamboo towels in the bathroom when not in use either; the temperature and moisture levels constantly change in this room – especially when someone is bathing - so a cupboard is better as its temperature is more consistent.

Maintain fibres – Occasionally you might find a stray loop has pulled. This is easily fixed by snipping off the pulled loop at the level of the pile. Each loop is individually held in place in the towel, so snipping off the strays won’t cause any other loops to unravel.

If you care for your bamboo towels correctly, you will be able to enjoy their wonderful qualities for a long time! Check them out on the site.
