Flush, Flush, Flush - Did you know that toilet water amounts to up to 27% of your household water usage? Quite hard to believe, but every time you flush, a lot of water is used in the toilet. How to prevent this? Dual-flushers are becoming very popular, which allow you to select the amount of water that is used depending on what needs to be flushed (solid or liquid waste). Quite cheap, they're an ideal addition to your bathroom and will save you money in the long run. Another more costly option is a low-flow toilet which uses a fraction of the water when flushing. The same can be said for a shower head; installing a low flow shower head, can heavily reduce the water flow per minute, while still providing a nice shower.

Turn the tap off - It is very easy to do your teeth on a morning and evening, and let the water run down the drain as you brush away. This is a massive waste of water though, and can easily be prevented. Make a conscious effort to turn the tap off between brushes to ensure that you're saving as much water as possible, and encourage your family to do the same too.

Green Bath Products - Most products in your bathroom can be all made 'green'. Ingredients in mass produced products can be full of preservatives that may have been tested on animals, and might not be good for your skin. Green and certified organic products are safe for your body, and are environmentally safe. Eco and sustainable products use natural ingredients too, meaning you're supporting ethical business practices. Retailers are beginning to realise the massive demand for green products, and by buying green, you're supporting this growing eco-industry - bonus! Don’t forget to check out our Environmental Toothbrush, which can be disposed of safely by returning it to earth in compost or landfill. Both the bamboo and bristles will biodegrade into soil in 6 months to 2 years.

Use eco-cleaning products – When cleaning your bathroom, use a scrubbing brush with baking soda and your baths and sinks will be clean in an instant. If you have any tough stains around your drains, put the plug in and pour spirit vinegar around the area, and leave for half an hour. When you let it go down the drain, use a toothbrush to scrub and the stains and watch them easily disappear! Got bathroom mould? Dip your toothbrush in tea tree oil and rub on the mould to disinfect the area.

Change the bulbs and fan - If you love sitting in the tub for some time, you might consider how much electricity your bulbs are using as you soak away and relax. Why not change your bulbs to energy efficient ones? It'll slash your bills dramatically - especially if you change the entire house's bulbs too - and you can chill out knowing that your relaxing bath isn't costing the earth. Also ensure that your bathroom fan is energy efficient; in doing so, you'll save 60% compared to older models. Keep your fan running during your bath/shower, and for 15 minutes after too, or risk getting mould on your walls.

Use Bamboo Towels - There are few things more enticing than a gorgeously soft towel after a bath or shower. Average towels can rub your skin and cause irritation, as well as losing their softness over time. Our bamboo towels are made of fibres which are four times more absorbent than cotton towels. With one soft and gentle pat of the towel on your body, you'll be much drier than if you were to use a cotton towel. Baksana uses organic dyes in their bamboo towels which makes them both eco-friendly and very kind to your skin; a perfect addition to your eco-friendly bathroom.
