5 Eco Friendly Activities to Enjoy with the Kids

On a weekend, it’s a great time to relax with the family and have some quality time together. It's also a wonderful time to get children involved in caring about the environment and introduce them to the eco-friendly world that we all love. If they see you caring so much about the earth and environment, they’ll want to do the same! Cherish your weekend memories while introducing your kids to these fantastic eco-friendly activities:

A Nature Treasure Hunt – Have a walk to a nearby park or even just your own street, and prepare a nature hunt; give the children a piece of paper and a bucket, and ask them to collect certain items from nature such as leaves, flowers, stones and so on. They’ll have tons of fun on their ‘treasure hunt’, and you can teach them about each item as they find it too. A great way to learn and be eco-friendly in the process. If you don’t want to go too far, use your own garden!

Visit a Farmers Market – Get kids excited about healthy local foods by taking them to your local farmers market; they’ll be able to pick their own fruits and veg, meet local farmers from the community, and enjoy nutritious healthy treats. It’s a great educational lesson too, on where food comes from and how important it is to support local and buy from them as often as possible, rather than just from the shop.

Cook Together – Cooking together with your children is a great way of spending time together, learning some new cooking skills, and educating them on reducing waste too. If they’re old enough, get your children to choose a mystery ingredient, and come up with something you can cook together with it. Try cooking with leftovers and use the local ingredients you bought at the farmers market too. They’ll love cooking from scratch and seeing what they can put together.

Visit Local Museums and Cinemas – There are some great local museums that are a great way to allow the children to see, touch and interact with all sorts of fascinating subjects and objects. They’ll learn about nature and the world around us, and probably come away wanting to know more! Check out your local IMAX cinema, for their ‘School Film Library’ collection; they have some fantastic educational films that are wonderful for learning and enjoying at the same time.

Visit the Beach – Grab the sun lotion and swimming costumes, and head to the beach. You can all build sand castles, enjoy the waves, or even bury each other in the sand! The beach is one of nature’s best eco-friendly activities, and a wonderful day out. Teach the kids all about the ocean, sea creatures, and take an eco-friendly picnic with you too; a perfect day out!
