5 Eco-Friendly Ways to Refresh Your Home

Spring is a great time to refresh your home and give it a refreshing spring clean! It'll get it ready for a new season and leave your home feeling very fresh and bright. Don't use store bought cleaning products though, give it an eco-friendly clean with these tips:

Walls get dirty too - It is really hard to see dirt on your walls until you actually give it a wipe, and you might be a little surprised at what you find! To stay eco-friendly as you clean, add a little bit of baking soda to your cleaning water and wipe the walls with a soft cloth. Make sure you get all the hidden and hard to reach areas, such as on the top of doors and around light switches. If you want to add a cleansing and fresh touch, add a bit of lemon juice to the water too. All done without using any shop bought cleaning products.

Time for the furniture - Pieces of furniture around the home can easily pick up dirt, and this time of year is perfect for giving them a bit of a cleanse. A great place to clean them is outdoors; it means the dust and grime that is removed doesn't then go into the air in your home. A great way to clean couches - first remove the larger bits of dirt and grime (check under seat cushions where things might be hiding) and then sprinkle them with baking soda. Leave them in a shaded area for a few hours and then return to vacuum.

Clean and sparkling floors - When it comes to the floors, many carpet cleaning products contain a cocktail of chemicals that are a no-go for the environment. It is worth getting in someone local to clean your carpets and floors professionally, but do your research; many services will try to be as 'green' as possible, but if they don't know what is in their products and can't answer other eco-based questions, contact the next one. To get rid of any stains yourself, use white vinegar and water. Spray it onto stains, leave for a few minutes and remove with warm soapy water.

Up high on the ceiling - A ceiling can be cleaned just like the walls can, and any dust and dirt can be removed with a duster. If you have any appliances like fans or air conditioning units, make sure these are cleaned too, as they can spread more dirt and dust around the room.

Bathroom beauty - Bathrooms are usually cleaned pretty regularly since they're used daily, but a little extra won't do any harm. Use a scrubbing brush such as the 'High & Dry' Bamboo Scrub Brush; its unique pointed shape and long, angled bristles means it can reach into the tightest of corners to give a thorough clean. Use it with baking soda and your baths and sinks will be clean in an instant. If you have any tough stains around your drains, put the plug in and pour spirit vinegar around the area, and leave for half an hour. When you let it go down the drain, use a toothbrush to scrub and the stains and watch them easily disappear! Got bathroom mould? Dip your toothbrush in tea tree oil and rub on the mould to disinfect the area.
