7 Ways to be Eco-Friendly as a Student

Whether you're a full time university student or a part time or mature student, there are many things you can do to ensure that your work and time while studying is also kind to the environment. Take a look at some of our tips below:

Organisation - When you're buried deep within the midst of an assignment or two, your room/office can end up cluttered in an array of sticky notes. Why not scrap the notes all together, and be kind to the environment as you work? Our Three by Three Bamboo Desktop Tablet features a bamboo dry erase 'whiteboard' in a handy desktop size. It’s a nifty and handy gadget to have for writing and scribbling in ideas and reminders and even sketching designs on the fly. An ideal place for your notes as a student. Also check out our Bamboo Sort It Out! Wall Caddy by Three by Three, which has a dry erase surface, and compartments for books and papers.

Lunch - As a student, it's really easy to pack up lunch for the day and take it with you, or grab it on the way to a lecture. Plastic cutlery isn't ideal from cafes and takeout’s, so why not have your own environmentally friendly set with you? Our Bamboo Travel Cutlery Set is perfect. A handy carabiner on the back lets you clip and carry a fork, knife, spoon and chopsticks wherever they may roam. Perfect for a busy student lifestyle and our precious planet.

Clean Teeth - It's very easy to snack on a few sugary things as you study, meaning the teeth will need a good clean by the end of the day. Ditch the plastic toothbrush and go for our Environmental Toothbrush instead. It was invented by an Australian dentist in response to the burden that plastic toothbrushes place on the environment, and features a bamboo handle which is 100% biodegradable and has antibacterial properties.

Paper - As well as sticky notes as above, it's very easy to go through mounds of paper too, especially in lectures as you scribble notes down. With every student doing the same across the world, so many trees will be cut down. Instead, why not take all of your notes on a tablet? If this isn't available to you, do ensure that you recycle all of your paper. Try and encourage your University to do the same too if they don't already. Every little helps.

Ink - Printing can not only drain a student’s funds, but buying new ones every few months means a lot of plastic in new cartridges; not ideal for the environment. What can you do? Using your university printer is an option, but can run up even larger bills. Instead, get your old ink cartridge filled up. It's much cheaper than buying a new one and a lot better for the environment.

Bulbs - If you're a full time university student, this could be the first time you're paying the bills as you live away from home. If you'd really like to save a few dollars as well as considering the planet, suggest to your housemates that you have energy saving bulbs around the house. Watch the bills go down!

Towels and quilts - After a long day of studying, a lovely hot shower is all you might fancy. Enjoy the sumptuous feel of our bamboo bath towels against your skin and you’ll never buy any others! These plush bamboo towels by Baksana are beautifully made and of the highest quality.
