Eco-Friendly Tips To Stay Warm This Winter

Posted by Bamboo Village on 22nd Jul 2015

The freezing days and nights are here and it is official - it's very cold! Perhaps you're reading this with your hands surrounding a warm cup of coffee or tea in a bid to keep warm. When the weather is biting, it means your heating bills go up and can lead to environmental concerns too. Don't worry though; you can still stay warm and reduce your carbon footprint over the colder months. Take a leaf from these tips and enjoy staying wonderfully warm over winter.

Wear Layers

Bamboo layers are your best friend over winter. If your house is cold but you want to keep the bills down, put your heating on only gently and then layer-up. Our bamboo socks are all ideal for autumn and winter to keep your feet snuggly warm; pair them with your favourite pants, pull on a comfy snug top and settle in for a day of utter warmth and comfort. What a delight. Add jumpers or cardigans over tshirts for an added snuggle factor. Check out our singlets for men and women too.

Close Unused Rooms

There's usually one room in the house that doesn't get used too much, maybe a guest room or office that only gets used now and again. These rooms can take away the heat from rooms that really need it; hardly ideal! To stop this from happening, seal any insulation gaps and turn off their radiators. Don't worry about them getting cold; they can be opened again when the warmer weather starts. Just be prepared for them to be super chilly if you need to use them unexpectedly, and wear plenty of layers.

Cover Your Windows

So much cold comes in through windows over winter, so it's very important that you cover your windows as much as possible. Curtains made out of thick materials work best, as they trap a lot of the cold from getting into your space. When the warmer weather returns, simply take down and store your curtains until the colder weather comes back.

Love Your Hot Water Bottle

Hot water bottles are real life savers when the cold is here! Fill them up with warm (not boiling) water, and throw over the protective material layer if it comes with one. Then sit with it by the side of the fire, or take it to bed. Laying it on your stomach or feet can really keep you toasty warm! Always ensure you follow the safety instructions.

Move, Move, Move

Weekend around, and you're feeling the chill? Get moving! Exercise heats up your body and will keep you feeling lovely and warm. It doesn't have to be yoga or running either; simple housework can easily help you build up a sweat.

Get A Rug

If you have wooden or tiles floors, they can feel so cold on your feet in the winter. Place rugs down in the rooms that are used most in the house, and you'll all be enjoying the benefits of it in no time.
