'Green' Your Workout in 2015

The start of a New Year is a good time to kick start some resolutions. Getting fit is on many people’s agenda, and with the right outlook and gear, you can get into a great routine to last all year long. It’s wise to keep the environment in mind when you work out, and with a few simple tips and planning to the way you do things, your workout will be friendly to nature as well as keeping you fit. Check out some of these great ideas.

Run, Run, Run – A great way to get and stay fit is running. Costing absolutely nothing (except perhaps some decent running trainers and comfy clothing), the world is your oyster when it comes to going out for a jog. Throw on your gear and head out the door; whether it’s for ten minutes or ten miles, it keeps you fit and keeps the environment safe. Not sure where you can run? Check out sites like WalkJogRun, where users input their favourite running routes and you can find some great new places to exercise. Also consider joining a local club.

Find an Eco-Friendly Gym - If the gym is on your agenda, take a look at what your local gyms are doing for the environment. Proper recycling and using things such as Bamboo flooring and recycled rubber are great signs, as well as using dual flush toilets and energy efficient saunas. Boxing Works in NSW is an eco-friendly gym that generates electricity from exercise bikes, which we think is pretty awesome. When all five bikes are being used they can easily generate enough electricity to power the whole facility - amazing!

Use Bamboo Gear – It often seems that workout wear is designed for people with completely ‘perfect’ bodies; too tight in the waist, or too loose in the leg, or the other way around. We completely understand, which is why we’ve listened to what every woman is looking for, and supply eco-friendly bamboo workout gear for all shapes. Sounds good? Read more on our blog here. Bamboo activewear is not only totally eco-friendly, it is super comfortable and helps you enjoy your workout!

Walk or Bike – One of the most eco-friendly forms of exercising you can do, is to walk or bike to where you’re heading instead of talking your car or public transport. This isn’t always an option if you work quite far away for example, but if it’s only a short journey, grab the trainers and head into the fresh air instead. You’ll get fitter, save money and the environment and feel great for doing so. If you’re concerned about being a bit hot and bothered when you get to your desk, see if your place of work has showers to freshen up when you arrive.

Eco-Friendly Water Bottle – When exercising, it’s very important to stay hydrated. Ditch the plastic one’s you can buy at the store which can end up in landfills for years. Instead, get an eco-friendly water bottle instead. We like the Little Penguin Filter Bottles. The top of the water bottle contains a small filter which lasts an entire two months, and it is this that filters your water and makes sure it is at an alkaline level, which means it is safe to drink, and also means you can fill your bottle up wherever you are. The bottle can be taken wherever you go, whether to work or to the gym, and drinking will be safe and totally filtered, and the environment is being helped too – a great bonus!
